Friends and community across grades
Teamwork, self‑discipline, courage, and determination
Practice handling pressure and responsibility in a supportive environment
Habits that help you stay organized, focused, and confident in class
A chance to be part of St. Agnes’ strong athletic tradition
Whether you’re a seasoned club athlete or completely new to a sport, you’ll find space to grow.

Athletic Physicals: What You Need Before You Try Out
Before you can step onto the court, course, or field for tryouts, you must have the following documents on file:
These are required for every sport each year. If you’re not sure what forms you need or how to submit them, please reach out to Head Athletic Trainer Grace Brewer at
Grace.Brewer@st-agnes.org.
What Happens If I Make the Team?
You may be thinking ahead to what happens if you make the team you try out for. How will that impact your schedule and routine at St. Agnes? Here’s what you can expect during the fall season:
Mandatory practices and/or competitions up to six days a week in season
Typically three practices and two competitions per week, plus some Saturday meets or tournaments
Practices that are usually 1.5–2 hours, before or after school
Off‑season workouts designed by your coaches to keep you strong and game‑ready
There is a $150 athletic fee per sport each year for students selected to a team. If you play three sports, the fee is waived for the third sport.
Who Does St. Agnes Compete Against?
You may also be wondering who you will be competing against if you make a team. St. Agnes competes in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS), with a district and playoff structure similar to UIL public schools.
For our fall sports, TAPPS recognizes State Championships in Cross Country and Volleyball. Meanwhile, Water Polo and Field Hockey play under independent organizations that host state‑level competitions for varsity teams.
Overall, we play against top competition throughout the Houston area, providing you with ample opportunities to test your skills against fellow high school athletes!
Summer Open Gym: Get on the Court Before Tryouts
The fall sports season is exciting, but sometimes students need some low-key, casual athletic competition before the hustle and bustle. If you want some gym time before fall tryouts, join us for Summer Open Gym (enter through the Sauer Lobby):
Basketball: Every Monday and Wednesday in June, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Volleyball: Every Tuesday and Thursday in June, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Open Gym is a great way to stay active over the summer, get comfortable in our facilities, and spend time with other Tigers and future teammates.
Ready to Get Started With Trying Out?
If you’re interested in fall high school sports at St. Agnes Academy, your next step is simple.
Email the coach for the sport you want to play and ask to be added to their email list for tryouts, open gyms, and summer camp information:
Once you email the coach, you’ll get details like exact tryout dates and times, what to wear and bring, and any recommended conditioning or skills work before you show up.
Please note for Volleyball that we are in transition with the head coach position. If you are interested in trying out for Volleyball,
contact our Athletics Department. For other sports, you can also reach out to the department with any specific questions before trying out.
Even if you’re not sure you’ll make one of the teams, you can show up, give it a try, and see what you can do – you might surprise yourself!
