2026-2027 Audition Information

Mixed Chorus auditions will take place Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. in the St. Agnes Choir Room. Please enter at the front of the school at the Rotunda. There you will be escorted to the St. Agnes Choir Room by a Chorus Council Member. Feel free to arrive anytime within this two-hour window. Please pre-register here.

On the day you arrive, the Chorus Council will warm you up, then line you up to sing. When it is your turn to sing, we will check your range with a 5-note scale and hear a verse 1 of “Amazing Grace.”

RESULTS
Results will be emailed about a week after the audition date. Please make sure we have the correct e-mail address for you and your parents when registering for the audition. If you are unable to attend the live audition, please contact Kim Mendoza at kim.mendoza@st-agnes.org for more information on submitting a digital audition.

Mixed Chorus

The Mixed Chorus brings together more than 100 student musicians from St. Agnes Academy and Strake Jesuit in grades 9–12. Founded in 1988, the ensemble presents an annual Holiday Vocal Arts Concert featuring sacred and secular favorites and choral masterworks such as Handel’s Messiah, followed by a lively year-in-review concert each spring.

Students are selected through a required audition held in April of the previous school year and rehearse daily, Monday through Friday from 7:05 to 7:50 a.m. Chorus members build foundational vocal skills including breathing, vocal focus, sight reading, basic music theory, and performance technique while exploring a wide range of musical styles, from Renaissance to Broadway. Each student participates in required individual juries twice a year and performs multiple times annually. Members earn one performing arts elective credit, and uniforms are required.

Mixed Chorus students are encouraged to audition for All-Region and All-State Choirs and regularly excel at the TPSMEA Solo & Ensemble competition. As active members of the Texas Private School Music Educators Association, we consistently have more students qualify for All-State Choir than any other private high school in Texas.

On campus, students may pursue private voice lessons and perform in faculty and student recitals. In the spring of freshman year, singers may audition for Varsity Ensembles, including Performance Workshop and Triple Trio.

Each spring, the Choir Tour offers students the opportunity to perform while traveling to destinations such as New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and this year, Nashville.

Christmas by Candlelight
Every December, our community celebrates the holiday season with a performance by the St. Agnes Academy and Strake Jesuit Mixed Chorus, Triple Trios, and Performance Workshop. The program includes a variety of sacred and secular holiday classics, a choral masterwork, and the timeless tradition of singing Handel’s "Hallelujah Chorus” with former alumnae and alumni.

Varsity Ensemble

Triple Trios
The Double Triple Trio is the select vocal ensemble at St. Agnes Academy. The St. Agnes Girls Triple Trio and Strake Jesuit Triple Trio consists of nine ladies and nine men, respectively. Enrollment into this group is by audition only and is open to students in grades 10-12 in both schools. Trio members take a class in which a grade is earned. The women's course is during the school day while the men's is during Community Time. One of the group's many professional performances include two weekends at the Texas Renaissance Festival. Renaissance costumes are required. Triple Trio members receive one performing arts elective credit.

Performance Workshop

Performance Workshop is the premiere show choir offered by the St. Agnes Academy Department of Music. This vocal ensemble is open to students in grades 10-12 by audition. A group of approximately 14-18 students selected by audition in vocal skills enroll in a course that takes place during the school day. Each student receives a grade for the course. Performance Workshop presents a broad spectrum of musical styles including popular, jazz, rhythm and blues, rock, country, Broadway, and contemporary music. This show choir will facilitate continued development of vocal skills to enhance a student's musical growth. Out-of-school rehearsals and performances are a part of the instructional program and are required. Travel and apparel expenses are borne by the student. Performance Workshop members receive one performing arts elective credit.

Voice Lessons

Private Vocal Instruction allows students an opportunity to receive instruction on a one-to-one basis. In coordination with the St. Agnes Academy Choral program, this course provides a total instructional program in music. Students receive an in-depth study on vocal technique, posture, breathing, diction, foreign language, and basic music theory as well as performance and audition techniques and opportunities. Students perform voice juries in Fall and Spring and sing in a Vocal Recital at the conclusion of the spring semester. Students meet with the instructor for at least 30 minutes each week. Cost of this non-credit course is $40 per lesson or $480.00 per semester. Contact Kim Mendoza, kmendoza@st-agnes.org, in the Music department for further information.
