PLAYING EXPERIENCE: Coach Mattes was a 3-Sport Varsity letter winner (Soccer, Softball, Tennis) at La Marque High School.
COACHING/TEACHING EXPERIENCE: Coach Mattes began her career in education in Dickinson ISD at the middle school level, coaching volleyball, basketball, track, and tennis and teaching math. She spent the next 5 years at her alma mater teaching middle school PE and journalism and coaching volleyball and basketball. She also coached Varsity Tennis, JV Volleyball, and JV Softball at the high school.
In 2003, she began teaching and coaching at Elkins High School in Fort Bend ISD. She was also the PE/Health Department Chair and Girls Athletic Coordinator. During her 9 years at Elkins, she coached JV Volleyball, Varsity Cross Country & Varsity Softball.
In 2004, Elkins Softball had a perfect 39-0 season, winning the UIL 5A State Championship. The team was also named USA Today National Champions and National Coaching Staff of the Year. Elkins Softball went on to win 34 games the next season, carrying the winning streak to a national record, 76-0, before the team lost in the regional final game. During her 9 years at Elkins, 27 players went on the play college softball. She became the Director of Athletics at St. Agnes Academy in June of 2012.
EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, ’97, and Master of Education in Education Leadership with Principal Certification, ’09, both from Stephen F. Austin State University
