Dance

Where discipline meets imagination, and movement becomes art.

Dance Program

At St. Agnes Academy, we are wholeheartedly committed to nurturing a thriving community of individuals with a passion for dance, whether they choose to pursue it in higher education or simply enjoy it as a lifelong hobby, alongside their diverse future career paths. We firmly believe in the transformative power of dance, viewing it as a medium for personal and artistic growth that transcends professional boundaries. Our foundation is firmly anchored in the pursuit of technical excellence, recognizing that a solid technical footing provides the wings for boundless artistic expression. Within our hallowed halls, we foster a culture that celebrates imaginative exploration, actively encouraging all students to push the boundaries of both tradition and innovation.

At the core of our educational philosophy are the timeless values of discipline and unwavering commitment. Diligently instilling in our students the virtues of tenacity, perseverance, and an unshakable work ethic, we acknowledge that these qualities are not only pivotal for success in the world of dance, but also fundamental to thriving in life itself. We place a strong emphasis on the importance of understanding dance within its rich cultural and historical contexts, enabling our students to forge connections with the centuries-old traditions that have sculpted this exquisite art form. Moreover, we kindle a passion for lifelong learning, nurturing within our dancers an insatiable curiosity that drives them to continually deepen their comprehension of dance. By fostering critical thinking, we empower our students to question, analyze, and innovate, ensuring that they evolve into not just proficient dancers, but also astute, imaginative, and engaged individuals. At St. Agnes Academy, our steadfast devotion lies in shaping not just dance artists of tomorrow, but leaders poised to leave an indelible imprint on the world of dance and far beyond.

The Tiger Girls are St. Agnes Academy’s 2024 and 2026 UDA Nationals award-winning dance team who perform during halftime at select Strake Jesuit home football games, a variety of St. Agnes and Strake Jesuit athletic games, dance competitions, St. Agnes pep rallies, and the dance department’s annual dance concerts. Tiger Girls is a dance family and strives to grow as a community, cultivating lifelong friendship, leadership, teamwork, and discipline.

Auditions for Tiger Girls occur in late spring. Tiger Girls practice on Monday evenings throughout the summer and attend camp, where they learn their game-day choreography for the year. All grade levels may audition. Practices are held in the dance room during the school year, from 6:15 a.m. to 7:40 a.m. Tiger Girls will be eligible to earn a P.E. credit for membership.

The Tiger Girls competition dancers are a subset of the Tiger Girls who attend local, regional, and national competitions from November to March each year, culminating in UDA Nationals in Orlando, Florida. Competition dancers are required to be enrolled in studio classes outside of Tiger Girls and have additional obligations, including choreography workshops, weekend practices, weekend competition attendance, and are expected to practice 5 days a week (the game day team can expect 1-3 practices a week depending on the time of year).
